Lessons Learned from Loss Control

We take our job of insuring peace of mind seriously. So, here’s one quick recommendation from our loss control experts to keep your home and business safer.

Check the manufacturer of your electrical panel. If you have a Federal Pacific (FPE) Stab-Lok style circuit breaker, contact a local professional right away to schedule an electrical panel replacement.

FPE Stab-Lok panels pose a substantial risk for fires. They contain circuit breakers that may fail and leave you unprotected in the event of a power surge, short circuit or circuit overload.

To make matters worse, Stab-Lok panels can fail without warning and are estimated to be in millions of structures across the United States. Thus, they are linked to around 2,800 fires, more than one dozen deaths and $40 million in property damage annually.

Most individuals are not aware of this risk, even though the FPE Stab-Lok panel was one of the most popular circuit breakers installed from the 1950s to the 1980s.

Just one failure on the part of a breaker could put you, your family and your property at risk. If you suspect you have a Stab-Lok panel, please call a professional for a replacement as soon as possible.
