Columbia Insurance Group (CIG) is proud to announce the 2024 recipients of the D. Arlo McNary Living Memorial Scholarship: Carter DeVore and Robert Smithburg, both of Columbia, Mo.

The McNary Living Memorial Scholarship was established by Columbia Insurance Group for employees’ children upon the retirement of Arlo McNary (1934-2016), who served as CIG’s president and chief executive officer from 1983-1999.

The scholarship is a $1,000 merit-based award, evaluated on academic performance, leadership, activities, work experience, career and educational aspirations as well as feedback from their school.

Carter DeVore is the son of Shelly DeVore, regional vice president, and Gene DeVore. Carter is a recent graduate of Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Mo. He will be attending MidAmerica Nazarene University located in Olathe, Ks. Carter plans to major in physical education.

Robert Smithburg is the son of Shannon Smithburg, digital services manager, and Damon Smithburg. Robert is a senior at the University of Missouri, Columbia, pursuing an education degree with a major in social studies and a minor in Korean studies.
